Derivatives conference: trends and challenges to the buy-side
Derivatives have come increasingly under the spotlight in recent years, with calls for greater transparency, increased automation, more efficient trading and execution and higher regulatory standards.
Exploring these issues, Northern Trust hosted a successful day long conference in Chicago last month entitled Derivatives: trends and challenges to the buy-side, with participation from over 40 institutional investors, asset managers and consultants.
Topics covered included the regulation and valuation of derivatives, use of central counterparties, collateral management and automated processing.
US-Saudi Business Opportunities Forum
The inaugural US-Saudi Business Opportunities Forum took place in Chicago in late April, bringing together senior government officials and business leaders from the two countries to explore opportunities for further economic collaboration.
Northern Trust sponsored the forum, the proceeds from which will benefit programs set up to increase understanding and business interchange between the US and Saudi Arabia.
Pension & Investments Roadshow: Revisiting the 401(k) Investment Line Up
Members of Northern Trust's defined contribution (DC) solutions team spoke on the subject of cost-management in DC plans, as part of Northern Trust’s Revisiting the 401k Line Up series of summits.
More than 600 institutional investors and investment consultants attended this summit series which visited four cities in the US (San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago and New York) throughout the month of April.
Virtual town hall addresses challenges in derivatives
In April, Northern Trust hosted a virtual town hall webinar entitled Challenges and trends in the over-the-counter derivative industry, which was attended by forty financial services industry professionals.
The webinar was carried out through FiduciaryX, a one-stop portal for information and resources relating to investment best practice, research and business networking.
Fourth Annual Fund Forum Asia
Bert Rebelo, Northern Trust’s Director of Asia-Pacific Product Management and Strategy, was among the speakers at the Fourth Annual Fund Forum Asia, a four-day event held in Hong Kong during April.
Speaking on the subject of fiduciary management, Rebelo addressed an audience of chief executive officers, chief investment officers, investment experts and distributors at this major conference, which looked at some key investment principles in the post-crisis environment.
Luxembourg Fund Industry Roadshow
Northern Trust was a sponsor of a UK roadshow held by the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry in early May.
The seminar discussed the opportunities that exist today in Luxembourg, with particular focus on how Luxembourg’s fund regime is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of asset managers, particularly with the growth of the Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) brand.
